From Hygge to Ubuntu – Buzz Words to Live By
KEYIF
Keyif is difficult to define. There is no specific translation, but it can be descried as a certain ‘idle’ mood that brings you pleasure. Keyif is an important part of Turkish culture, and I can see why it is so.
Most of the time, we easily become lost in our daily lives; work, chores, kids, and whatnot. We often forget about ourselves and never give a thought about spending some solo quality time. You may love your friends and families but enjoying your own company can be rather relaxing. It can rejuvenate you.
To practice the art of keyif, you don’t have to buy any lavish, materialistic things. You simply have to be on your own for a little while and find peace in that.
It can be in your home, it can be outdoors, and it can even be on an airplane! Go to the seashore, sit, and gaze at the waves. Watch the birds fly by. Look at the cars rushing across the road, ponder over your life and simply melt into the moment.
I tried keyif after spending a day out with my baby in a bustling city market. I sat down on my porch and gazed at the grass-blanketed hill across my home. There was a tranquility in the moment that brought peace and pleasure. Those 15 minutes, I found, were one of the best ways to unwind.
These words have been trending lately. Hence, I refer to them as Buzz-words, but they can be so much more than simple words on a page.
If we can actually work to incorporate just some of these practices in to our own lives, it can make a great impact on our mental and physical health. It is beneficial, and it costs nothing!
Which one would you try first?
